Week 1: DEMO
This week,  McHenry Remodeling started demo of the exterior home and preparing for the removal of the addition, which will take place in a week. Here are some photos of the work they accomplished, Sam and I are super impressed with their professionalism and work ethic. They also found some cool stuff behind some of the walls; they found newspaper from 1931, a birth certificate from 1959 and an old wooden bat.

2 month update

We have been busy pruning, trimming and cleaning up the yard. This old oak tree had ivy grown all the way to the top and all around the berm.

This photo is after a long weekend of removing ivy.
We have removed all the carpet in the home and were pleasantly surprised to find old vertical grain fir floors. There is some damage around the fireplace so I'm not sure what we will do in the living room.

The Before

In April 2014, Sam & I purchased a 1901 farm home on 16 beautiful acres in South Salem. We fell in love with the location but the home itself was neglected and in need of TLC. With never having done a full home renovation before, we decided this was our chance and dive in. We have had ownership for almost 2 months and the big portion of construction is about to begin. With never having done anything like this before or blogging for that matter, we thought it would be fun to share our experience. Here are some photos of the 'before'.

As you can tell there's a lot of windows......this is the view from the deck and the reason why we fell in the love with the property.

Check back to see our progress. We will be posting our work as we go. Wish us luck in our marriage!!!
