Rebuild Time!!

I am glad to say that the demo portion is OVER!!It was really difficult to see a 3000 sq ft home become barely 1000 sq ft of just bare bones. When Sam and I decided to embark on this journey we anticipated and envisioned the process but then when it actually began to unfold, the chaos surrounding us created a surreal experience we did not expect. Since we completely demolished most of the home, Sam and I had the opportunity to change some of the layout since we're not working within the old mold of the home. We decided not to change much from what we had planned; we opened up a few walls but really love the design and layout of our future home. This week McHenry Remodeling will be framing and sheathing what was torn down last week; they have accomplished so much in such a short amount of the time. It is incredible to see the crew work so well together and get so much work done.

Sam and I working on Sunday.
1st Floor is framed!

The trench is dug, the septic is set and now we are grading and laying the pipe.

Updated Demo

Here are the updated photos of the project. As you can tell there is significantly less house than before. Due to the poor craftsmanship and condition of the home we decided to just remove most of the exterior/interior walls to ensure that this home will last another 100 years.

This last week, we worked on the exterior walls getting them plumb and square and as well as re framed.  A portion of the basement block was removed and rebuilt. Sheathing has started to go up as the walls are completed. We found an old tobacco case from 1907 in the walls, take a look at our photos from last week.

The block foundation was replaced and reinforced.

The exterior front is framed and sheeted.
This is the fireplace wall that was removed and now re framed and sheeted.
McHenry construction removed the dining room and kitchen.

Week 2: More Demo

My goal is to post at least weekly updates, so my apologies for being a little late. Last week was a crazy week, we completely demolished a portion of the home. In addition, McHenry Remodeling was fixing dry rot, foundation issues and re leveling the home starting in the basement. Here are more pics from week 2 demo. It is remarkable at how much has been accomplished in such a short period of time. Sam and I really appreciate all the hard work that has gotten this job off to a running start.

Most of these photos were from early in the week so they are not really reflective of everything that was done.
