Pump house, windows and roof, oh my!

Raise the roof!!
The trusses were placed and the front dormer was built this week. It's so exciting to see our vision start to come to light. The windows should be installed by the end of this week, our modern farmhouse is starting to take shape. Sam and I placed all the rain drains and conduit for the power this weekend.
Over much thought and discussion we made a decision on the front door. The door has been the most difficult thing to choose. It is such a focal point to a home and we wanted to make sure it supported our modern farmhouse design. We chose a local company called Rogue Valley, here is the door we decided. Ours will be made out of walnut. http://www.roguevalleydoor.com/products/1526

UPDATE
Everyone has been busy with the project. McHenry Remodeling will be
starting to put up new trusses this week. Sam and I have been busy with
the juggle of work, home projects while still trying to enjoy our
summer. In July we took a short trip to Las Vegas, we are usually lucky
when we go but not this time; highlight of the trip was seeing Lady
GaGa. This year was Sam's 30th birthday so I surprised him with a
weekend trip to the Oregon Caves and the Redwoods. Now we are back and
ready for more work on the homestead. Sam and I are working on building
the new pump house, which we hope to have built in the next few
weekends. Here are the most current photos of the project.....

Rebuild Time!!
I am glad to say that the demo portion is OVER!!It was really difficult to see a 3000 sq ft home become barely 1000 sq ft of just bare bones. When Sam and I decided to embark on this journey we anticipated and envisioned the process but then when it actually began to unfold, the chaos surrounding us created a surreal experience we did not expect. Since we completely demolished most of the home, Sam and I had the opportunity to change some of the layout since we're not working within the old mold of the home. We decided not to change much from what we had planned; we opened up a few walls but really love the design and layout of our future home. This week McHenry Remodeling will be framing and sheathing what was torn down last week; they have accomplished so much in such a short amount of the time. It is incredible to see the crew work so well together and get so much work done.

1st Floor is framed!
The trench is dug, the septic is set and now we are grading and laying the pipe.

Updated Demo
Here
are the updated photos of the project. As you can tell there is
significantly less house than before. Due to the poor craftsmanship
and condition of the home we decided to just remove most of the
exterior/interior walls to ensure that this home will last another 100 years.

This last week, we worked on the exterior walls getting them plumb and square and as well as re framed. A portion of the basement block was removed and rebuilt. Sheathing has started to go up as the walls are completed. We found an old tobacco case from 1907 in the walls, take a look at our photos from last week.
The block foundation was replaced and reinforced.
The exterior front is framed and sheeted.
This is the fireplace wall that was removed and now re framed and sheeted.
McHenry construction removed the dining room and kitchen. Souvenirs from the wall..

Week 2: More Demo
My goal is to post at least weekly updates, so my apologies for being a
little late. Last week was a crazy week, we completely demolished a
portion of the home. In addition, McHenry Remodeling was fixing dry rot, foundation issues and re leveling the home
starting in the basement. Here are more pics from week 2 demo. It is
remarkable at how much has been accomplished in such a short period of
time. Sam and I really appreciate all the hard work that has gotten this
job off to a running start.
Most of these photos were from early in the week so they are not really reflective of everything that was done.

Week 1: DEMO
This week, McHenry Remodeling started demo of the exterior home and preparing for the removal of the addition, which will take place in a week. Here are some photos of the work they accomplished, Sam and I are super impressed with their professionalism and work ethic. They also found some cool stuff behind some of the walls; they found newspaper from 1931, a birth certificate from 1959 and an old wooden bat.

The End of WEEK 1:
Chimney is GONE!
The fir floors are removed and in a safe place for later.......

2 month update
We have been busy pruning, trimming and cleaning up the yard. This old oak tree had ivy grown all the way to the top and all around the berm.
This photo is after a long weekend of removing ivy.
We have removed all the carpet in the home and were pleasantly surprised to find old vertical grain fir floors. There is some damage around the fireplace so I'm not sure what we will do in the living room.
